Biography
Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Blén grew up immersed in the timeless voices of Aster Aweke, Abby Lakew, Zeritu Kebede, and Eyob Mekonnen, artists whose influence deeply shaped her sense of melody, emotion, and storytelling. Just as strongly, she was drawn to the global sounds of Rihanna, Sade, and Jhené Aiko, absorbing the layered textures of R&B, Pop, and Neo-soul. These dual influences inform her signature sound: a seamless blend of Ethiopia’s traditions with soulful, contemporary rhythms, a genre-bending style known as Neossinia. At just 13, she released her debut single in collaboration with the now DC-based producer Kenny Allen, marking the start of a journey that would span collaborations with producers like Nuhi, Tru3, Maars, and Nati Turner. Over the years, Blén has quietly honed her artistry, not only as a musician but as the founder of Bana Records, a label committed to exporting Ethiopian music to the world. Now ready to fully share her voice, Blén brings forward a sound that archives, elevates, and reimagines East African musical identity through a soulful, global lens.
